China's first VDE certification for surge protective devices (SPDs)
Mday (Zhejiang) New Energy Co., Ltd.(Mday) and VDE Testing and Certification Institute recently held an awarding ceremony for the VDE certification of surge protective devices (SPDs). Senior representatives from both parties attended, including Mday General Manager Vincent Huang, Chief Engineer Byron Wang , International Business Manager Jackson Xu, alongside VDE Global Services CEO & Board Member of VDE Testing and Certification Institute Germany Sven Öhrke, and VDE China General Manager Wu Zhongxian. In December 2024, Mday successfully obtained China's first VDE certification for SPD products.
During technical evaluation, VDE experts conducted tests on Mday's SPD products in accordance with IEC/EN 61643-11:2022 standards, covering critical indicators including operational load testing. The VDE certification confirms Mday's compliance with electrical safety and quality requirements. The certification process involved systematic reviews of product design verification, production process audits, and quality management system assessments.
VDE CEO Sven Öhrke stated: "We appreciate Mday's trust in VDE. As China's first certification in this category, this represents not only an honor but also the beginning of long-term mutual trust. As a century-old institution in electrical safety certification, we hope the VDE brand will facilitate Mday's entry into the European market. This certification not only validates technical compliance but also establishes a technical foundation aligned with EN/EC mutual recognition systems."
VDE China GM Wu Zhongxian emphasized: "We rigorously implement IEC/EN 61643-11:2022 certification procedures, conducting specialized assessments including dynamic load testing and failure mode analysis for SPD products. We also provide customized certification services to help enterprises build multidimensional product competitiveness."
Mday GM Vincent Huang remarked: "Our sustained R&D investment in surge protection core technologies has developed a complete product matrix covering DC/AC and low/high-energy surge protection. The VDE-certified SPD series achieves 7kA impulse discharge current under 10/350μs waveform and 25kA rated short-circuit current (Isccr), meeting IEC Class I+II protection standards - laying the technical foundation for entering the EU CPR construction directive market."
Mday Chief Engineer Byron Wang said: "This certification authoritatively validates our SPD core technology system. Through self-developed MOV optimization innovations compliant with IEC 61643-11:2022, we achieved 15 nominal action loads under 25kA 8/20μs impulse current while reducing voltage protection level (Up) to 1.2kV - 18% superior to industry benchmarks. Our digital quality traceability system aligned with VDE 0623-11 ensures full lifecycle compliance with EN 50539 photovoltaic surge protection requirements. We're collaborating with VDE to develop enhanced protection solutions for 1500VDC scenarios, targeting full EU CPR directive compliance upgrades by 2025."
Following technical certification, both parties signed a second strategic cooperation agreement to deepen collaboration in product certification, testing technology R&D, and market access strategies, accelerating global expansion.
