Why Should I Measure My Surge Protector After Installation?
To limit inductive coupling between the protected portion and unprotected equipment after surge protective device installation, certain measurements are required for surge protector. Mutual inductance can be reduced by separating the inductive source from the sacrificial circuit, selecting the loop angle, and limiting the closed loop area. When a current-carrying conductor is part of a closed loop, the proximity of this conductor to the circuit reduces the loop and induced voltage.
In general, it is best to separate the protected and unprotected conductors, and they should also be separated from the ground wire. Furthermore, to avoid transient orthogonal coupling between power cables and communication cables, necessary measurements for surge protection device should be performed.
