Surge Protector Working Principle Analysis
surge protective device is generally connected in parallel in the power supply system. When lightning occurs in the middle of summer, it will induce ultra-high voltage and overcurrent on the power supply line. Because a high-performance varistor is installed in surge protector, surge protection device will immediately activate and quickly divert the ultra-high voltage and overcurrent to the ground, effectively protecting the safety of electrical equipment and ensuring the normal operation of the system.
Surge protectors come in single-phase and three-phase versions. Single-phase protectors are suitable for residential homes, while three-phase protectors are suitable for three-phase power supply systems. Each surge protector contains a varistor with excellent non-linear characteristics. Under normal power supply conditions, the surge protector operates at extremely high resistance, with leakage current almost zero. This ensures the normal power supply. Once a surge voltage occurs in the power supply system, the surge protector responds immediately, conducting within a very short time to dissipate the highly destructive energy of the ultra-high voltage and overcurrent to the ground. Subsequently, the surge protector quickly returns to a high-resistance state, ensuring normal power supply.
This is the function and working principle of a surge protector.
